This Does Matter

The COGers have been nice enough to further illustrate their desire to recall more Town Councilors than just Janet Joakim.

One well-known COG commenter has now threatened further recalls of the "maggots who call themselves 'councilors'"... He also went on to expand their headhunting list to include Councilor Tobey. The list now tentatively is Rugo (Precinct 2), Munafo (Precinct 3) and Tobey (Precinct 8)... with Crocker (Precinct 5) and Barry (Precinct 7) as strong possibilities, too... Add the those possible recalls to Joakim's recall (Precinct 6), and you have current or potential recalls in Precincts 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8. YIKES!

(By the way, the targeting of Councilor Tobey is nothing new. Eric Schwaab started threatening Tobey's seat the very same night that Schwaab lost to Munafo, almost one year ago. Check out this post for more info - Congratulations to James F. Munafo, Jr..

That post is yet another example of info that I have had to rescue before that infamous "Post Deleter" struck again and tried to hide his true intentions...)

Recalling Joakim was NEVER about the issues... It was NEVER about Joakim... It was about the COGers trying to force their personal and political views on the rest of the town... It was payback for standing against COG... It's really all about COG... That's why it shouldn't be supported...

Having these COGers around may start getting real expensive, real soon... Let's send them the message that we don't want them around. Go to the polls tomorrow (THURSDAY OCTOBER 30) in Precinct 6 and VOTE NO ON THE RECALL...

This recall is very much about Joakim. As for future targets, Rugo and Munafo seem likely. Barry seems popular with a broad range of his constituents. As for Crocker, his detractors would have an easier time trying to recall Vladimir Putin.

If you have not heard by now, COGG has posted yet another loss. All those hours of hard work (not to mention dragging her son around all summer)was for NOTHING. Schooners must be tired of holding these "looser parties." The list for Ms. Thoman is as follows, Run for Charter Commission= LOST, First two attempts to recall Janet= DENIED, Recall effort= FAILED. Let us not forget all the $ put out by Eric was for NOTHING. One more tid bit of info. Chief McDonald was at the polls earlier this evening. He was not voting but picking up a "Vote Yes" sign that had a recall sticker attached using a part of another sign. Guess who's sign it was? It was one of Janet's signs. Looks like Ms. Thoman list of charges is about to get a wee bit longer. As COGG pointed out on their site, "stealing signs is a crime."

NO=371

YES=257

The absentee ballots are not included in this total but are expected to increase the margin of victory!!

Yes Chief MacDonald was at the polling place and yes there was an issue with a number of vote yes signs.

It seems that small extenders were added to the signs to display those "Recall Joakim" stickers on the top of the vote yes signs. Shortly after 3pm one of the people outside the polls was standing up some signs that had fallen down. As this person was picking up a "Vote Yes" sign it was discovered that extender on top of the sign was made from a cut up Janet Joakim Sign.

Once this was discovered, all of the other signs with extenders were examined and it was determined that all of them were made from parts of Janet Joakim signs. The pieces were from both Janet's red, white, and blue "Vote Janet Joakim" sign and her red and white "Vote NO" signs.

Saw Janet and her supporters outside at the polls yesterday. I am glad that the people of precinct 6 were smart enough (most of them) not to fall for the "BS" put forth by the recall initiator. I happen to catch the Patriot's article last week regarding the recall organizer Taryn Thoman and something tells me that we will be reading about her in the papers in the future. If the police chief was in fact there and did see these signs, he must initiate charges due to the fact that the stealing of political signs is considered a crime. It is not up to him to decide whether or not to go forward. That will be for the courts to decide.

Below is a post from Taryn Thoman left of the COGG site. The funny part of it is that she was no where to be found outside the polls. Neither was the "VP" of the campaign. In fact she sent down two high school drop outs at about 6-pm to hold signs. What a brave woman! And tough guy John Julius said he was "going to be there @ 2-pm holding signs, standing shoulder to shoulder with Joakim." He never showed up holding signs either. I guess it's much easier to mouth off looking at a computer screen. Either that or he saw the men standing out there and drove in quietly.

Thoman's Post:

I gave Alice a ride around 11 AM and the figures you are reporting are accurate.

There were two VOTE NO people on each side of the driveway. No sign of Joakim.

Our signs were plastered around the polls at 6:30 this morning. Christine Howell was screaming at my little crew that our signs were too close to hers, blah, blah, blah.

We have replaced our signs three times in 24 hours. Not sure who did it, but saw a few staple gunned to a tree on Old Falmouth.

We will have bodies out there in about 20 minutes. Hope it remains peaceful. Not much police presence. I am still giving rides: 508-775-8933.

Alice is elderly with severe foot problems so I walked her into the polls and waited for her to vote.

Some old lady was squawking at Linda Hutchenrider, demanding to know who was paying for this ridiculous recall, and that the people who signed the petitions should pay for it. One of the clerks simply replied that this is a democracy.

Then the old hag started complaining that people from outside HER precinct were responsible for this nonsense, and they should mind their own business. I simply stated that as far as I knew, no one on the former ZBA lives in the 6th precinct. She stomped away in a huff.

Alice voted YES, I saw my friends from Monomoy Circle in the parking lot who all voted YES, and as I was helping Alice up into my van, a lady said she noticed my bumpersticker and told me she was undecided. After a short talk, she and her husband said they were voting YES.

I received calls from Dan, Red and Eleanor letting me know they voted YES and that their neighbors are voting too.

I have no idea whether or not we will succeed in this recall, but I am very confident that we will have the 20%necessary to have a valid recall.

We have eight more hours.
I am getting back on the phone. Please do what you can. We do have a shot at succeeding, and I will remain hopeful. Thanks.

I think it is sad that Thoman put so much into the recall and then sent a couple of "kids" to do her work for her. She didn't come & hold a sign, nor did the big mouth Julius. Then, when they LOST (there is a winner & a loser in an election, Janet clearly won), they just keep making excuses! The school IS handicap accessible. The doors are ALWAYS locked during school hours. This used to be the precinct 6 polling place, the voters know the school. I know wheelchair bound voters that had NO problem voting. All schools are locked during the day to protect our children. I am at a loss as to why Julius, Lopez, thoman & now crazy Anderson cannot accept defeat & move on. Janet was NOT recalled. More people wanted her than did not. Move on, get jobs, go to church, find peace......

I was at the polling place around 5:00pm when one of Taryn's "helpers" arrived in a maroon car plastered with red recall bumper stickers.

She parked the car near the polling place door and then left on foot. Moments later she returned driving Taryn's gold mini van which she parked next to her car.

This was only moments before Chief MacDonald arrived to see the campaign signs. After he looked at the signs and spoke with Janet. He drove over to the area near the polling place door to have a look around.

Taryn's "helper" suddenly got in her maroon car and left the school grounds rather quickly.

Hey "we are the champions" I cannot believe that you had the nerve to use that 4 letter word "JOBS" in your post. You should wash you mouth out with soap. As long as there is Mass Health/Welfare and whatever other handouts she is taking from the working folk in this town, getting a job is not going to happen!

Bernardo, Joakim and Atsalis all put their signs on properties without owners permission. Joakim put her own signs on three properties that had pro recall signs. Pro recall signs were stolen within hours of being put up. When police were called about signs being placed on unwanted property, people were advised to throw the signs away.

Joakim has paid a heavy price for her stupidity in attacking non public persons, their families, and businesses. She can crucify that Thoman woman all she wants. I have seen the videos and court documents, and know that Joakim will ultimately be sued for her interference and libel by people who dared to speak out against neglect, abuse, and unethical political practices.

Lopez will come out of his funk, and he has recruited new blood. Coggers wisely and intentionally stayed away from the polls after Christine Howell assaulted two individuals posting pro recall signs at 7AM. Joakim and her ilk are always looking to intimidate and most folks arriving at the polls had already made up their minds how they were going to vote.

Lessons were learned with the Joakim recall, and the Rugo recall looks like it will work for a number of reasons, which will become apparent in the coming weeks.

Obviously these activists are not fighting these David and Goliath battles for certain victories. They are looking to raise awareness, and they are getting it.
The Joakim recall was the first in the history of the town. One old guy on a computer and one woman in a mini-van apparently took on the entire Barnstable machine and got 41% of the support from the voters to oust the council president. That is not a bad start. Rugo better brace himself.

Christine Howell did not assault anyone at the polling place on 10/30/2008!!

She was there a few minutes before 7am and witnessed the two individuals who set up the "Vote Yes" signs. She did not assault either one and there are two BPD officers who can verify that.

As to the "Yes" signs four of them were taken down by the head of Barnstable's Democratic committee. She took down those signs because they were less then 150ft from the polling place door.

Let me make this VERY clear, yet again.

This blog and its comments sections are NOT the place for discussion of the neighborhood spat in Marstons Mills. Nor is it the place to discuss any further escalations of the matter.

Congratulations to Precinct 6 voters for strongly voting this recall down.

Once again, in the face of defeat, COG threatened to shut down for good (AGAIN), but that barely lasted a day before another post appeared. I have to assume that there will be more. That's the way it works over there.

I don't understand why people feel the need to continue talking about that banned topic. Enough already.

Somebody left two Joakim signs on my property after my VOTE YES signs were stolen. I gave the Joakim signs to a guy who replaced the vote yes signs. I don't care if they cut them up or threw them away. By law, they were on my property, so they belonged to me.
I don't live in Precinct 6 but I do live on a main road in Hyannis.

Atsalis and Bernardo did the same thing on my property. I took their signs to the dump, as they were MINE to throw away.

The pro recall signs were stolen all over the precinct, and people at the polls were even bragging about it. One woman even took a pile of them and threw them in her car and drove away. The Joakim camp is infamous for stealing signs. Janet Joakim's days in politics are coming to a close. This recall had more impact than you know. I heard people talking about it at town hall today when I went to vote. They all say the same thing - she's toast.
